2016: A Superbia eSports Retrospective

Fri 30th Dec 2016 - 10:12pm General Gaming Heathstone CS:GO

2017 is right around the corner, and alongside a brand new year filled to the brim with opportunity after opportunity, it is the perfect time to reflect on the events of 2016 that has lead us to this point.

On April 26 2016 we relaunched Superbia eSports, aiming to create an organisation that supported young and talanted competative gamers in Europe. With a new focus we started scouting for teams both in the Call of Duty and Counter Strike: Global Offensive scenes. However within 24 hours we decided to pick up British Hearthstone player Atekz who had previously played for Viperio Esports.

Atekz continued to play Hearthstone for Superbia eSports and even won the Gfinity Hearthstone 1v1 April ladder. Later Atekz decided to take a step down from competing, instead he now supports the management staff however hopes to return to competing for Superbia eSports in 2017.

On June 2 2016 we picked up our first ever CS:GO team comprising of Raitis "Deep Stereo" Vecmanis, Emīls "Emis2" Cinītis, Arvis "almostpro" Pētersons, Dāvis "kaiShi" Grudulis and Rūdolfs "Reboxx" Reboks.

On June 2016, with many LANs on the horizon for our CS:GO team we announced our official eSports jersey.

July 9 2016 was the first time that a Superbia team attended a LAN event. Superbia eSports made their debut at the goExanimo Summer 5x5 LAN. The team fought hard against formidable opponents however placed 6th at the event, narrowly missing out on a spot in the playoffs.

Our eSports jerseys made their debut appearance on September 3rd when Superbia eSports attended Tartu Tamme Gümnaasiumi Võrgupidu 2016 Sügis in Estonia. This time the team managed to escape the group bracket, finishing second in their group and advanced into the playoffs. Our first game of the playoffs saw us take on TeamBlu and after a very close game we closed it out 16 - 13 and advanced into the second round. In round two we faced off against aim.ru where we lost 16 - 3 and dropped into the losers bracket where we faced off against Wager. Despite a very close game we fell and was kicked out of the tournament.

A week later saw us once again moving out of the group stages at the goExanimo 5x5 Go Back to School LAN. Aksis joined the CS:GO team and fought hard against opponent after oppenent to make it into the semi finals and ended up finishing in 3rd place. On September 19 Aksis would go on to replace Reboxx in the official roster.

On September 24 we won our first ever LAN, unfortunatly both KaiShi and Deep Stereo were unable to attend the event and were replaced with Hyskee and Espiik for the event.

To finish off the year, the Superbia CS:GO team entered ESEA Open Season 23. The team worked hard to make it into the playoffs where the finished the season ranked 177th.

To all of our fans who have supported us throughout 2016 we would like to thank you, seeing your support in Twitch chats and on Social Media means everything to us. We hope that you will continue to support us in 2017 and continue to make you proud.

We wish all of you a Happy New Year.
